Windows 7 Incompatibility

Windows 7 doesn't have WebDav support built in nor does it have a patch at this time to support editing MS Office Documents from MindTouch.

Vista Troubleshooting

When attempting to edit and save a document using the WebDAV "Edit" link, users may find that the document opens in read-only mode. As a result, the document cannot be saved directly back to the site; instead, the user is prompted for a location to save.

This occurs when the end user is using Windows Vista in conjunction with Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint 2007. To correct this, follow these instructions.

Download the Microsoft Hotfix

  1. Download the Microsoft hotfix that corrects the Web Folders issue outlined here: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=907306.

Place Word into Compatibility Mode

  1. Browse to the Microsoft Word executable (located by default at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\WINWORD.EXE), and right-click on it. Click Properties.
  2. Click on the "Compatibility" tab.
  3. Check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
  4. Select Windows XP (Service Pack 2).
  5. Click Ok, (repeat steps 1-4 for Excel and PowerPoint) and restart the system. This should allow in-page editing and saving for Word.

XP Troubleshooting

First try applying the above patch, then make sure your Mono is running version 1.9.1 or higher.  You can check by following the mono upgrade instructions.  After upgrading Mono restart the API:

/etc/init.d/dekiwiki restart
