If you want to host your own MindTouch for development or Production and don't want to pay for a Dedicated Server yet you still want control and root access. You may want to consider a VPS(Virtual Private Server). A virtual private server enables you to have a dedicated server through the technology of virtualization.
A user that is very technically savvy enough to install MindTouch on a server from source/package and be able to manage a server but doesn't need a power of a dedicated server, or is working on a small budget.
Depending on the provider, a VPS can run between $7.95/month and up. Limitations are usually for bandwidth, storage, RAM, and CPU power.
The easiest deployment would be to have a Debian OS as that is the native OS for MindTouch. Any other Linux OS or Windows will work too, see install guides. A minimum of 256 MBytes should be used if you are planning on more than 5 people using the wiki. Need one Dedicated IP for the server, more if you intend to run other applications along with MindTouch. For storage a recommended 5 GBytes will work starting off. Intended use of Wiki will change the requirements.
First off find a good provider of VPS(see above). Follow the install instructions for MindTouch
Once you have installed MindTouch you will be able to assign a domain to it and you have your own MindTouch.
If you need help installing MindTouch you may purchase a support plan and we will help you configure it.
