Overview

Extensions provide additional information to your MindTouch site.  MindTouch ships with a dozen extensions for embedding maps from Google, viewing RSS feeds, or authenticating users with LDAP/Active Directory.

Extensions come in three flavors: templates, scripts, and services.  Templates are reusable wiki pages that are easy to edit and customize.  Scripts are XML files that can easily be shared online.  And services are libraries that need to be installed or hosted on a web-server.

Installing Extensions and Scripts

Check the following User Manual pages to learn about installing an extension or script:

Contributing a Script

Script extensions are very easy to share.  Please consider making them available for others to use and build upon.  It only takes 3 easy steps!

  1. Host your script at a public URI (e.g. http://scripts.mindtouch.com/spoiler.xml) or attach them to your user page on this wiki.
  2. Create a new page here with the name of your script (e.g. Spoiler Text).
  3. Create a DekiScript block using the styles menu from the editor toolbar and fill in the parameters for the "ScriptDoc" template.
    ScriptDoc{
        author: "Your Name", // or vendor: "Your Company Name"
        uri: "http://scripts.mindtouch.com/spoiler.xml", // full URI to where the script it located
        status: "Stable" // (optional, default: "Work-in-progress")
    }
  4. Save the page and celebrate the news of your script on the forums!

The documentation for the extensions should include an introduction with, at least, a link for additional information. However, a brief explanation or introduction for the extension as to what it does and why it matters would be helpful. For example, everyone is not going to be familiar with "spoiler tags", "ADO.NET" or "PageBus". Introductions have been added to some of the extensions. Also, every extension should have a corresponding example or demo.

I am assuming that users are starting to write their own extensions. Is there a repository for unofficial extensions that I can take a look at?

Some extensions are under Community, while others are hosted offsite. We really need to consolidate all extensions in one area, regardless of origin.

Hi there. Are there any commercial (i.e. for sale, not free) Deki extensions? I am considering porting my Balsamiq Mockups plugin http://www.balsamiq.com/products/mockups to Deki, but I need to know if I'll be able to charge for it (are there licensing APIs...etc). Please contact me via email.

Hi there. It maybe sound stupid, but i just created an free wiki.is, but can't find the 'Service Managment' pane in the controlpanel. It just isn't there. Did I do something wrong? Can somebody help me?

Service Management is only available with the full version of Deki. Since wik.is ia a shared site, it does allow for custom services, but it does come with lots of pre-defined ones.

"How do you use Extensions?" doesn't tell me much. For example, it says that using the wiki.page extension will "include a page." Does that mean it will copy the content of an existing page onto the page where the extension is placed, or that it will put a link to the page there? I tried to use it but got an "EOF expected" error. I get those a lot. I suppose there's something about the input that I'm not understanding.

Hi Steve, how do you use the pre-defined ones? I, too, don't have Service Management available in Control Panel.
