Currently there is a gap in the security modes that can be seen in the following situation (which is how my wiki is set up):

  • The front page and certain subpages are readable by everyone, editable by a list of users.
    • Currently supported under "Semi-Public"
  • Many of the pages under the front page are department homepages.  For most of these access (read and write) should be restricted to only members of each department.
    • Currently supported under "Private"
  • Some of these departments would like to have pages that a all of the department can see, but only some of the department can edit.
    • This seems to be a combination of Semi-Public and Private.  Not everyone would be able to see the page, and not everyone who can see the page can edit the page.

I propose that either

  • the current system is broken out into two lists: users that have view access and users who have edit access or
  • another security mode is added that allows for two lists.
    • The only real difference would be that the two lists would be shown in the UI for this new mode

Can anybody use the approved tag? I'm gonna test this and change it back then.

Yes, anybody can use "approved"... but this propably can't be fixed easily without excluding the users from posting new feature wishes here...

Is this option still under consideration? I'm working on a wiki with public / private content. The private content is visible to all users in a role (or group), but should only be editable to a subset of the role (or group) that can view the content. The current options are EXTREMELY limiting and does not befit the "most advanced permission systems available" statements. :)))

This is definitely being worked on. See [http://wiki.developer.mindtouch.com/MindTouch_Deki/Specs/Lyons/Permissions] or [http://forums.developer.mindtouch.com/showthread.php?t=3255] for details on the current thoughts and progress.
