Usability Testing for new Control Panel

1. Decide on tasks for testing
   1. How does the task relate to one or more of the items that you listed in the purpose section of the plan?
   2. How frequent and/or how important is each task for the users?
   3. How susceptible is a particular element to a usability issue? (test to see if what you think are usability issues actually are)
2. Questions
   1. Participant profile questions (age, gender, education, experience with computers/technology)
   2. First impression
      1. What site is this? How can you tell?
      2. Who do you think this site is for? How can you tell?
      3. What do you think you will find at this site? How can you tell?
      4. What are your initial impressions of the site?
   3. At end of session
      1. How would you describe finding what you were looking for on this site?
      2. What did you like the most? The least?
      3. What would be the first thing you'd do to improve the site?
3. Data to be collected
   1. Success measures (what will be considered a success?)
   2. Time measures
   3. Error measures (what counts as an error?)
   4. Number of pages (count the number of clicks it takes the user to get to info)
   5. Pathway (users' paths through the site)
   6. Satisfaction Rating (satisfaction questionaire)
4. Scenarios
   1. Define a goal/task for the user to complete (with story/motivation)
   2. Give the user data (if necessary) needed to complete the task
5. What I Need
   1. Computer w/Snapz installed (to record screen)
   2. Video camera & six 90-minute tapes to record sessions
   3. Fill my VM with lots of content, users, deleted pages/files, etc. for the testers to use

*Encourage the tester to speak out loud when they're trying to accomplish a task.
