Installing MindTouch Deki Wiki is very easy, requires no special technical skills, and can be completed in about five minutes on Windows, Linux, or Mac OS X (Intel-based) by following the three simple steps provided below. 

• STEP 1 - Install VMware Player If you're installing on Windows click here to install the VMware Player ^{1, 2}. Note: you may be asked you to confirm accessing this file, click Ok and allow access to the installer.  If you are installing on Mac OS X (Intel-based) then you want to use VMware Fusion.  If you are installing on Linux you will need to download the appropriate VMware Player from VMware.
  
• STEP 2 - Boot Deki Wiki Launch VMware Player. Browse to the "MindTouch_Deki_Wiki" folder , select the "Deki_Wiki_Hayes_1.8.3_VM.vmx" file, and click Open. You may be asked if you wish to "Create", click "Ok". MindTouch Deki will boot in the VMware Player. Note: While using Deki Wiki you must keep the VMware Player running. Closing VMware "turns off" Deki Wiki.
  
• STEP 3 - You're almost done! The network address of your new Deki Wiki is shown in the VMware Player. This is a number similar to: http://192.168.1.122. Launch your preferred Internet Browser ³. Type this address into your Internet browser's address bar. Complete the MindTouch Deki Wiki installation survey by providing details about your deployment environment. All done!

¹ VMware Player requires a restart on reboot and that a user remain logged in. VMware Server, like VMware Player, is free and is likely the best permanent deployment option because it can be installed as a system service.

² If you wish to install MindTouch Deki Wiki from source code see the Source Install Guide, but installing from source code will take longer than 5 minutes and requires a higher degree of technical skill. Alternatively, if you are installing on VMware ESX review the install guide included in this package.

Additional information for technical users. For shell access to MindTouch Deki Wiki use the following credentials:

Login: root
Pass: password

Warning: Deki Wiki only allows local access root access; however, if you're deploying in a production or mission critical environment these credentials should be modified. Contact MindTouch for support if you have questions about how to do this.
