With the lyons release we should try to fix up our rewrite rules so they don't collide with wiki page titles as easily.
Here is an open bug on it but this page should be a conversation to track the motivations behind the cleanup.

Currently this feature attempts to add convoluted rewrite rules to the apache config. This should just be an exposed folder with direct links to php files, No need to be magical. Reverting this functionality would allow us to remove the special rewrite rules logic.
