With the release of MindTouch 2009 SP1 (Minneopa), we include the ability to use the open-source video platform Kaltura. It allows you to collaboratively edit videos within MindTouch, along with embedding videos from popular sites like YouTube, MySpace, and even your own videos. Note that the default MindTouch install will grant you 3 days of Kaltura use, after that you need to upgrade your plan. Contact a MindTouch Sales rep for more information on upgrading. To get started, configure the Kaltura Media Extension, then edit a page and click on the filmstrip icon in the Editor:

This will open the following dialog. If the dialog doesn't open, then confirm that the configuration of the extension is correct. The dialog will default to the My Content page which allows you to search your Kaltura account for videos/audio to Embed.

To upload a video file from your computer, click on the Upload tab on the left hand side of the Insert Media dialog. Then, click on the Browse button as seen here:

When you upload a video, it will be uploaded to the Kaltura servers, where you will then have access to embed it through the Media Extension. Note that videos uploaded through the Kaltura service will not be indexed by the MindTouch search engine. Once you click browse, you will be presented with a file browser as follows where you can select a video to upload:

Once you select the video file click the Open button. This will present you with the following screen:

When you are ready to upload the video to your Kaltura account, click on the Upload! button. You will then see a status dialog as follows:

Once it has finished uploading, it will show you the itemized list again, this time with the Status set to Done. Once you have confirmed that the upload is complete, click the Next button:

Now you can change the Title of the video, along with adding a comma-separated list of tags to the video to make it easier to find. Once you have added the Title and the tags, click Next:

After that, you need to confirm that the video that you are uploading doesn't violate Kaltura's Terms of Use. Once you have reviewed the TOS, click Ok to confirm you aren't violating the Terms:

This will then add the DekiScript to your MindTouch page to embed the video that you uploaded:

Then click Save to see the Video Embedded in the page:

Kaltura's platform allows you to click on the Webcam option and capture live video with your Webcam. This video can then be embedded within a page. To get started, click the Webcam tab. Then verify that the Webcam is registering in the Black box. Once you have the camera centered, click Record:

Once you have captured the video, click stop and then click Next. This will allow you to then add a title, Tags, and ultimately embed it on a MindTouch Page.

You can search YouTube, MySpace, Metacafe, and Photobucket for Video and also audio.

Once you have found a video that you want to use, click on it. This will mark it with a checkmark. You can preview the video in-frame by hovering over the video and pressing the play button. Once you have selected a video, click the Next button.

The title of the video (along with any tags that accompanied the video) will be pulled in. You can add your own tags and title for the video. A popup with a Terms of Use verification will be presented. To continue, click OK after validating the statement:

Once you have selected the options then click Next.
You will then be presented with the following Options, where you can specify the location to pull the Video/Audio content from. By default, it is set to My Content, which allows you to search your Kaltura account for videos that you have uploaded through the Upload tab. Note that videos attached to MindTouch pages will not be searchable through the Kaltura Video dialog.

This will then embed the media into the page with a dekiscript statement:

When you click Save you will then be presented with the video embedded within the page:

The most exciting feature of the integration with Kaltura is the ability to have collaborative video editing within MindTouch. To get started, select the radio button next to Editable from the main screen, and then click next:

This will then present you with the following dialog similar to the dialogs explained above. Follow the steps above to insert the video content.

Once you have added your content and saved the page, you will notice a difference with this video in comparison to previous videos that you added. Now, an Edit this video button (a camcorder with circular arrows) appears on it:

Click on the Camcorder, and you will then be presented with the following dialog:

From here you can add transitions, crop, and add multiple video files to create a compilation. To add a transition, click the Transitions Button at the top, and then drag and drop a transition to the small square between frame as follows:

To add new video files to the timeline, click on Clips Library, and drag and drop available clips into a frame as shown below. You can also add more video files to your set by clicking the Add More button in the upper right hand corner of the Clips Library.

To edit one of the individual frames, click the green pencil in the right corner of the frame, and it will open with the following dialog:

You can drag the arrow cursor to anywhere in the timeline, and cut the content before or after the cursor by either clicking Cut Start or Cut End. Once you have finished the cutting, click OK to return to the previous dialog. If you made a mistake by accidentally cutting too much, click Cancel. You can also add a soundtrack to your video by clicking the Soundtrack tab, and then uploading a sound file that you want to play in the background:

You can add your own soundtrack by clicking the Add More Audio button; this allows you to search your local computer or online resources for songs to play in the background of your video. You then have options to select for how and when the music will play. When you are done with all of the editing options, click Save in the bottom right corner of the dialog. This will then present you with the following dialog:

You can choose a different part of the video to create a new thumbnail for the preview of the video. When you are done, click Finish, then click Close in the main dialog. Refresh your MindTouch page to see the changes of your edited video.
