    Printing and Saving as PDF

    Note:  This functionality is now deprecated as of 10.x.  Currently, selecting to print a page within MindTouch will trigger the browser's print function.

    MindTouch includes the ability to Print pages to a local printer or to save the page as PDF using PrinceXML. To get started, go to the page in MindTouch that you want to print and click the Print Page button at the top of the page as seen here:

    This will then load the print dialog which looks like the following:

    =media_1227569384161.png

    Now you can choose to Print Page or Save as PDF. Before printing, take a look at the Print Preferences to make sure that the output will be formatted correctly:

    1. Shows the auto generated Table of Contents for the MindTouch Page. The Table of Contents are generated based on the Headers of the MindTouch page.
    2. The Page Modified Info is listed in the upper right hand corner of the MindTouch Page which shows the last time it was edited and who edited it.
    3. If you have any content that is linked within the page, this will show the links summarized at the bottom of the print out

    Once you have selected the preferences, you can Print the Page or Save it as PDF.

    If you want to Print the Page on your local printer, click the Print Page button. That will load the print dialog (which will vary depending on Operating System).

    If you want to save the page as a PDF document, click the Save as PDF. Depending on your browser settings, it may open the PDF in your browser, or it may prompt you to save it to your computer. The following shows it open in the browser:

    Note the PrinceXML watermark in the upper right hand corner. This can be removed by purchasing a PrinceXML server license.

    @jamesv What's the logic behind deprecating this functionality? How do you achieve the same thing (print the page body without the nav elements, etc) in 10.x? Thanks. Nathan

    @travellingwithoutmoving Hey Nathan, here, we wanted to allow print options to be handled by the browser. If you want to print without nav elements, Prince is still present in the background to create PDFs. Several skins offer a "Save as PDF" functionality, or you can invoke Prince directly by using a call like "http://[hostname]/@api/deki/pages/[page id]/pdf".

    @jamesv - That's really helpful! Thanks!
    Can you tell me if it's possible to select / unselect page elements in a similar way to process documented above via the call? I think it may be possible to modify the URI, but don't know where to start...

    @travellingwithoutmoving Unfortunately, there's no way to use an API call to segment out specific elements for printing purposes, though we may include this functionality into the UI again in the future. There is currently an open feature request on this:
