Disabling Read Only Mode for Office Documents

    Table of contents
    No headers

    When opening Microsoft Office documents from IE 7 & 8 (essentially downloading locally and opening into Office), errors may occur wherein you are unable to save changes to the file.  Resultant errors can vary, and many include references to the file being "read only", though ultimately the file simply cannot be saved to.  This is not an issue within MindTouch, but rather an issue with how IE triggers the opening of the file in Windows.  To rectify this issue and ensure these files can be edited and saved, please follow the steps below:

    1.  Click on Tools-->Internet Options.

    2.  Select the Security tab.

    3.  Select the Trusted Sites zone.

    4.  Click Sites.

    5.  Type your MindTouch domain into "Add this website to the zone", and then click Add.

    6.  Click Close, and then OK on the next screen.

    7.  Restart your browser.

    After having added your MindTouch domain to IE's trusted sites, you should be able to download and edit Office documents locally.
